Egypt's VAT threshold: when registration becomes mandatory

idoegy1 August 2026

Value-added tax in Egypt is charged at a standard rate of 14%. Registration is mandatory once taxable turnover reaches EGP 500,000 in any twelve-month period, and voluntary registration is available from EGP 150,000. Professional and consultancy activities are expected to register regardless of turnover. Registering on time — and charging, collecting, and remitting correctly from day one — is far cheaper than remediating a backlog later.
